Beware of the copycat scams
We’ve all heard of scams where you get sent an email requesting you to provide the sender details of your bank account in exchange of an inheritance, a lottery price or some other formidable sum of money.
The latest of such scams seem to be copycat websites; copied versions of ‘real websites’ set up to con customers.
Zavvi, the UK entertainment retail store was offering the much-demanded Nintendo Wii Fit for competitive prices last month. Thousands of people placed orders online, before finding out the website they used zavvidirect.co.uk was not legitimate. Whereas certain card issuers will refund money lost through such fraudulent transactions, not all of them do. As this will undoubtedly not be the last of such scams: beware online shoppers. Check what payment card you use and be aware of copycats!
