Mslexia relaunch
This week, MsLexia, the magazine for women who write, has relaunched its website and its magazine.
Mslexia was launched by founding editor Debbie Taylor in the UK in March 1999 with start-up funding from the National Lottery and Northern Arts. It commissions work by prominent authors as well as talented newcomers. Apparently, literary agents and BBC producers scan the magazine on the lookout for fresh talent.
Its mission is to overcome the complex set of conditions and expectations that prevents women, who as girls so outshine boys in verbal skills, from becoming successful authors. By providing information, guidance and inspiration for published and unpublished authors, it aimes to improve the quality and standing of women’s literature.
The commnuity of women writers consist of 11,000 paid subscribers, with an estimated readership of 30,000 per issue. On their website they have resources such as competitions, courses, events, jobs and awards.
