“The tradition that the man, in a heterosexual relationship, should be older than the woman, should be challenged. There really is no reason why that should still be the case. It’s not about Mrs Robinson any more; women have moved on since then, they are independent, know what they want and certainly aren’t desperate.”

This is the premise of recently launched dating website toyboywarehouse.co.uk. Its founder is 47-year-old Julia Macmillan, a painter and sculptor with an interest in younger men.

Julia told thenextwomen that she came up with the with the idea for www.toyboywarehouse.com when she tried her hands at ‘mainstream dating sites’ but found that, as a woman in her forties, she was only getting messages from older men that  “I could never in a million years find attractive.”  It is then that she decided to make the most of her experience dating younger guys and started her own dating site to cater for those that had similar desires.

The result is a site that offers, besides the possibility of online dating for women interested in younger men, a news column, a hottest members section, the TBW ‘virtual bar’ and a forum for discussion.  But not everything takes place virtually, TBW also organises offline events such as cocktail evenings and champagne or wine tastings.

Launched in May, Julia has already had to make adjustments to cope with the increasing numbers of people making the most of the gender gap. She says: “the biggest challenge was both technically keeping up with the growth of the site in terms of having to change servers and also introducing a subscription charge. The site had been free in the beginning.”

But having made the necessary adjustments, she is now ready to expand, planning to launch internationally, starting with the US this autumn, and perhaps in other European countries. Her plan is to sell the company within 3  to 5 years.

Toyboywarehouse.com is one of a few websites that offer ‘niche’ dating. Other UK sites are agelesslove.com and Agematch.com. In the US there’s Gocougar.com.

A little word of warning though: toyboywarehouse is a ‘sexy site’, not a sex site.
