harper’s bazaar women of the year
In September, Glossy magazine Harper’s Bazaar has given out the Women of the Year Awards 2008. The awards include Inspiration of the Year, Breakthrough of the Year, Creative Woman of the Year, Businesswoman of the Year and something called Man in a Woman’s World… Among the winners:
- Entrepreneur of the Year: Sara Blakely of SPANX, the online underwear company
- Business Woman of the Year: Elisabeth Murdoch of Shine Media
- Creative of the Year: Tracey Emin
The story how Sarah Blakely started out in 1998 is fully described on her website. In 2005, with proceeds of The Rebel Billionaire, a reality TV programme with Richard Branson, Sarah started the Sarah Blakely Foundation, which is dedicated to helping women globally through education and entrepreneurship.
Elisabeth Murdoch is Chair and Chief Executive of The Shine Group, an independent media company which she founded in 2001 to produce and distribute film and television programmes. Since August 2008, she is also a Tate Trustee.
The Man in a Woman’s World Award is awarded to Philip Green of Topshop, who launched a fashion line with Kate Moss.
