10% women speakers at Web 2.0 Expo Berlin
At this week’s Web 2.0 Expo a women’s panel headed by Suw Charman-Anderson will discuss gender issues under the title: Gender Issues in Web 2.0 Careers. For anyone who is ‘frustrated that there aren’t enough women in tech, that women are not well represented at conferences, or that the culture appears to favour male accomplishment’, the session is recommended. The participatory session will attempt to produce ideas to collectively act to level the playing field. The other 8 women speakers among the 90 web 2.0 speakers are:
- Solana Crawford on Design and User experience.
- Suzanne Minassian and Gina Poole on IBM’s software developments.
- Jennifer Pahlka as board member delivering the Opening Welcome.
- Lisa Reichelt with various sessions on usability, collaboration and open source design.
- Reshma Sohoni of Seedcamp on Pitching for fame and fortune
- Michelle Torni on creative commons
- Alexandra Deschamps on open source hardware
So, all in all 10% women speakers this year….maybe the panel can provide advice to Web 2.0 Expo itself…
By the way we still have a couple of Late Crunch tickets.

It is wonderful to find this site and this post. I was at the launch of the British Society of Magazine Editors’ new website in London last night. The six panellists and the chair discussing whether “the web needs magazines more than the web” were…wait for it…all men. I found this quite shocking and luckily there were quite a few women who felt the same.
I forgot to say: I am attending BLOG 08 so may see you soon!
