Here is the outline:

Barack Obama wants to:

  • Ensure an open Internet. Obama supports net neutrality and diversification of media ownership.
  • Protect children and privacy online. Obama wants to protect children online through tough penalties, increased enforcement resources and forensic tools for law enforcement, and collaboration between law enforcement and the private sector to identify and prosecute people who abuse the Internet to try to exploit children. Obama wants to strengthen privacy protections for the digital age and will harness the power of technology to hold government and business accountable for violations of personal privacy.
  • Encourage a modern US communications infrastructure. Obama believes broadband should come to every community in America.

John McCain:

  • Does not believe in net neutrality.  He believes an open marketplace with a variety of consumer choices is the best deterrent against unfair practices.
  • John McCain does believe the government’s role consists of protecting consumers on the internet, though things like fraudulent marketing practices, protected kids from harmful Internet content, secured consumer privacy, and sought to minimize spam.
  • Will also pursue high-speed internet access for all Americans.
