Female Internet Hero of the Week: Martha Lane Fox
This week’s Female Internet Hero is Martha Lane Fox, who launched this week the online and home version of her karaoke bars, LUCKY VOICE. It started as private karaoke in four locations in London where you are able to sing in front of friends, as opposed to in front of some strangers in a lousy bar. With the online songlist, you can now not only create and print your perfect pre-sing play list for singing at the karaoke rooms but also at home. Further, the website lets you plan your party, invite your friends, brows their play lists, and with the Wallpaper reviewed special edition fluoro pink mic, ‘home parties must get awesome’. Whether the karaoke website is as visionary as Lastminute.com was or will give Fox her second exit is to be seen.
Another venture that Martha is involved with is ANTIGONE, a foundation that has just celebrated its first year, and that assists small charities who work in the criminal justice system, healthcare and education. This venture does seem to be able to attract the numbers of Fox’s previous online travel hit, as there are thousands of women who are setting up business in this field and thousands of men in prisons who need to do something during and, more importantly, after their prison time. The foundation was set up by Fox and its managing director is Rebecca King.
