web based hive of homemade goodies

Online goodies: e-hive
Launched 20th October 2008 by Louise Campbell, myehive.com was set up to give local shops and suppliers of handmade goods an online marketplace. With the present state of economic play, the vision behind the site is to strengthen local business by shopping locally in the UK and Ireland. By cutting out the middleman they hope their ehive network of sellers will build a durable future retaining wealth for local communities.
Promoting green values, the site is a web-based hive of goodies complete with Queen Bee and Drones. Shopping is via categories or Colonies, such as art and photography; favourite sellers in Beeswax or favourite items in Honeycomb, with special orders taken in the Meadery. With an anti-greed statement in place, the site charges sellers one of three monthly fees – Worker, Drone or Queen – which set limits on the amount of products they can market, without taking any commission on sales. Still in its early days, the site is a marketing delight, although some colonies need a few extra busy bees to grow and help them thrive.
