Fantastic Kitchen Dinner with Inspiring Female Internet Heroes

Thirteen leaders, founders and investors from all walks of business gathered Tuesday evening for the first dinner in The NextWomen Kitchen Dinner Series. Quality food and wine coupled with the insights of internet insider Judy Gibbons were the ingredients for the evening. Even those previously sceptical of the female-only networking scene were drawn by the promise of Lebanese food and prosecco.
For a group varying from web designers, experienced entrepreneurs to technology VC’s, the topics covered were as varied, ranging from the power of Twitter to smart money; the lack of female VC’s and the abundance of toyboys. A round of introductions conveyed women with “a finger in lots of pies” or “looking for encouraging female entrepreneurs” and “motivated by what technology can do for users”, but many having mastered the art of building portfolio careers; carrying two or more female hero titles.
Yet the issues that the attendees raised were strikingly similar: how to find investment; how to scale a business; how to grow organically; how to come up with a business model that is more than free. Their resolve to promote more women in business is also similar – many were set to ensure the next generation of female entrepreneurs would face less barriers and none were lacking in confidence of their abilities to do so, with one attendee describing her sole problem as lying awake at night thinking of new ideas. Perhaps a lack of time was the only ingredient missing during the evening.
