Voting Opens for 2009 Webware 100 Recognising International Online Businesses

Webware 100 - Recognising Online Sites and Services
Who are the best international online companies?
The end of March saw voting open for the 2009 Webware 100 Awards in which 300 nominations were shortlisted from over 5000 qualifying submissions. The awards honour the best sites and online services in ten categories: Audio and Music; Browsing; Commerce; Communication; Infrastructure and Storage; Location-based Services New for 2009; Photo and Video; Productivity; Search and Reference, and Social Networking and Publishing, all as voted for by the user.
This year sees the addition of a new category, The Editors’ Awards, in which a further 10 winners will be selected – as suggested in the name – by the editors of Webware. It is hoped that by doing so, the smallest and most important up-and-coming services that frequently lose out to the popular vote will gain recognition.
Some companies with highly placed females that appear on the list include:
- Google Adwords – advertising purchase platform; Google Checkout – payment platform; Goog411 – Free 411 service; Google Earth – 3D maps; Google Latitude – location sharer and Google Maps – free online maps. Gisel Hiscock is the Director of New Business Development – Europe, Middle East and Africa
- Kayak – Travel Search Engine where Annie Wilson is Director of Business Development and Amy Marshall Director of Q.A.
- Angie’s List – A collection of professionally certified home services – Angie Hicks, Founder
- Dopplr – Calendar and social network where Lisa Sounio sits on the Board of Directors
- blip.tv - Video hosting and sharing community where Dina Kaplan is COO and Co-founder.
- Mint – an online finance management tool where Donna Wells is Chief Marketing Officer
- Bebo – Social Network – Xochi Birch, co-founder
- blurb – Online publishing service – founder Eileen Gittins
- Ning – Tool to create and manage user own social networks – CEO Gina Bianchini
Now in its third year, it is interesting to see the list of companies led and/or founded by women is far from exhaustive.
To vote on this years line-up visit Webware 100. Winners will be announced May 19th 2009.
