Meredith Corporation Launch Online Women’s Network

Early 2009 and as print is struggling and more companies move their focus online, publishing company Meredith Corporation, has launched an online Women’s Network dedicated to premium female led websites.  With 15 million visitors a month to their various websites, advertisers and marketers now have a powerful platform to reach them in one place.

The network, which is formed of: The Better Homes and Gardens Network, including Better Recipes and their soon to launch social network MixingBowl; The Parents Network which includes Parents, American Baby and Family Circle, and the Real Girls Network, including Fitness, More, Ladies’ Home Journal and DivineCaroline, uses various media to reach their consumers including print (books and magazines), television, online, mobile and video.

Meredith is best known in the US for two of its publications: Better Homes and Gardens, and Ladies’ Home Journal which are reported by Reference for Business to have circulation rates of 7.6 million and 4.5 million respectively.  According to The Meredith Corporation Wiki – in total they publish 26 subscription magazines, over 200 special interest publications and 400 books, and run 32 websites.

By producing their own online Network, Meredith joins other publishers such as Forbes and Hearst Magazines, in criticising third party networks for high rates and low quality ads.  The success of the site will remain to be seen, but with the likes of iVillage and The Glam Network already reported to be attracting 15 million and 40 million visitors respectively, the site has strong competition.
